The "SWAN" is reborn
in Shetland
(1991- ? )

The story in pictures

...and in with the new.

The 'skeleton' of the boat in place, the deck beams of larch were put in place and the planks steamed, on site, to allow immediate fitting.

Planks were steamed for 1hour for each 1" of thickness, before being bent to shape over the new frames.

Great care was taken to seal and protect the deck timbers, after the initial caulking. The detailed picture (at right) shows some of the relevant timbers.

With the new deck laid,
the boat started to look alive again.
