This latter boat was built in 1886 and fished until 1894; note the whale's skull used as a shoard under her. At left are two landing stages, which the boats came alongside to discharge their catch.

 Haddock Boat, Whalsay

Haddock boat ROSE at Little Linga, near Whalsay, around 1900. The ROSE belonged to the South Banks, Brough, and was one of the haddock boats which came new to Whalsay in the 1890's, and fished a lot with the CONDOR and the FRAM. Although boats often came to Little Linga to collect limpets for bait, this is a pleasure trip; the boat is manned by a "scratch crew". In the foreground is Robbie Irvine, Linthouse.
