  1. Norwick: Popular scenic sandy beach. The only site in Shetland for sea pea. Access: Easily reached from public road. Parking beside track through dunes.
  2. Lunda Wick: Two sand and shingle beach complexes with nearby archaeological remains. Access: Parking available at graveyard from track at Lund.
  3. Breckon: Extensive area of shell-sand beach, dune and machair. Interesting plants and archaeology. Interpretation board. Access: car park and track to beach.
  4. Wick of Tresta: Fine sandy beach backed by shingle - good for shells, especially tellins. Access: Vehicle track leads down to beach with ample parking.
  5. West Sandwick: Sandy beach with dunes and machair. Access: Limited parking at end of track leading off public road.
  6. Eshaness: Impressive dark cliffs, geos & stacks in volcanic rocks. Extensive blowhole at the Holes of Scrada. Seabirds and coastal turf flora. Access: Carpark at lighthouse. Easy walking along coast.
  7. Norby: Sandy beach. Access: At end of road to Norby & Melby
  8. Sands of Sound: Fine sandy beach, good rocky shore with pools and boulder beach. A good site for observing marine invertebrates and seashore lie at low tide. Access: From Kanterstead Road off main south road out of Lerwick.
  9. Sands of Meal: Small shell sand beach. Access: Car parking/ toilets off public road. Kissing gate & track to beach.
  10. Banna Minn: Shingle tombolo and sandy beach. Access: Car parking at Papil and track to beach.
  11. St Ninian's Isle: Classic example of sandy tombolo linking island to Mainland. Archaeological interest on the island. Access: Sign posted vehicular track off public road. Car parking amongst dunes.
  12. Bay of Scousburgh: Sheltered popular shell-sand bay backed by dunes and machair which cut off the Loch of Spiggie. Access: Track accessible to vehicles from public road around loch.
  13. Pool of Virkie: Tidal basin with large area of mud flat. Important feeding area for waders and ducks. Access: Can be viewed from the road from a variety of locations using passing places.
  14. West Voe: Popular south facing sandy beach near Sumburgh airport and archaeological site at Jarlshof. Access: Limited car parking at east end at junction with road to Sumburgh Hotel. Track to beach.
