Twenty one seabird species breed in Shetland. These range from the tiny storm petrel, which is smaller than a starling, to the gannet with its wingspan of almost six feet.

Seabirds come in shades of black, white, brown and grey and the sexes appear pretty similar. You will notice that colourful features tend to be confined to the bill and feet. If you get the chance, look closely at a gannet's feet!
