On most maps Shetland appears
as a tiny archipelago remote and distant from the British mainland with
nothing to the north, east or west.
On a global picture
Shetland is, in fact, at the hub of the North Sea, a stepping stone to
Scandinavia, an alternative route into Europe, or heading north to Faroe,
Iceland and Greenland.
